The state covers an area of 78,438 sq. km which is approximately 2.4% of India’s total geographic area. The three (3) physiographic domains of the state are the Brahmaputra valley, the Barak valley and the central Assam hills comprising the Mikir Hills of Karbi Anglong and North Cachar Hills.
